Does anyone else feel a certain obligation to be interesting and/or evocative and/or provocative and/or philosophical whenever they write in these things?
After days of tedious paperwork and signing patient release forms, I open the journals only to realise there's not very much I feel like writing. I could begin with DEAREST DIARY in pink script, but I suspect that may not go over well. I might not be the type. Possibly all out of sparkly gel pens, too.
Oh, well.

One up, one down. [...] I used to be a fan of tennis. Team sports with schedules and seasons would not have worked well in conjunction with med school, but I recall that tennis was an effective accompaniment.
I'm nearing the end of my three day weekend. Then it's back to the office on Monday. Interestingly enough, I finally find myself discovering some of the appeal of a slacker lifestyle. Take heed; workaholicism is not all it's cracked up to be.

A week or so away from these things, and you miss such an absurdly large amount of events. I won't ask for explanations on what passed me by; most of it was, presumably, uninteresting, as long as it involved people beyond my sphere. On my end, I spent the past several workdays fixing obese white men with clogged veins. It was not the most aesthetically pleasing way to spend my time.

What a messy headline. And right before Valentine's Day, too? Grim. Morbid. Awfully stupid of him to do it in public, however. Elisa, I must say I'm relieved they positively pinpointed it as a older man -- I may have started developing uncanny suspicions otherwise.
It brings back memories.

I may or may not have destroyed my tastebuds over the years; at either rate, I believe I've completely lost the ability to tell the difference between good or atrocious coffee. We have the hospital cantina to thank for that.

Apparently I'm leaving for the Middle East tomorrow morning. I've had medical conferences in Vienna and London, but this seems to be an entirely new kind of professional voyage. For one, it involves subtle lies to my non-tale coworkers.
I don't resent an opportunity to travel, but it does make one wonder about the sorts of hoops one is expected to jump through for our beloved Atheneum -- and what kind of existence tales carved out for themselves pre-1905.
[...]
Yes, I do believe this is my first ever business trip conducted at the Atheneum's behest. Presumably Harmon and I will be back soon.
